Traffic Engineering: Traffic Analysis for METRO, Houston, TX

Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc. completed four work authorizations to conduct traffic signal inventories and prepare signal plan modifications for Houston METRO's Regional Computerized Traffic Signal System (RCTSS). The traffic signal inventories were performed for several hundred intersections inside Beltway 8. The inventories consisted of recording the existing type of equipment at each signalized intersection. This information was used to determine primarily whether the existing controller cabinet could be used to house the new 2070 controller. The work also included determining whether the existing electric service was up to code, and other items such as pedestrian indications and ADA compliance.
Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc. also modified signal layouts to downsize the construction effort to install the system. The RCTSS program consisted of upgrading 1,320 signalized intersections with transit priority control and connectivity to TranStar, Houston's Emergency and Traffic Management Center.
