Public Works Engineering:
Black Horse Ranch Drainage Plan, Harris County, TX

Brown & Gay Engineers prepared a master drainage plan for a 1,163-acre master planned community with two golf courses and mitigation of fill placed within the floodplain. A drainage/detention study was prepared to determine the detention requirements for the golf course and adjacent residential developments and to insure conveyance changes made within the existing floodway and floodplain did not negatively impact the flood levels along Cypress Creek. The study addressed conversion of the existing sand quarry into a detention facility along with the use of available detention volume in the wetland lakes on the golf courses. Golf course outfall drainage to Cypress Creek and conversion of the sand quarry into a detention facility through the use of an outfall structure at Cypress Creek was also designed. Finally, requests for letters of map revision from FEMA for removal of adjacent residential developments from the floodplain were prepared.
