Land Development: Redstone Golf Club, Humble, TX

Redstone Golf Club is the new home of the Shell Houston Open. The first phase of Redstone Golf Club opened in July of 2002 and includes an 18-hole golf course, clubhouse facilities, maintenance facilities, and restaurant. Future plans for expansion include an additional 18-hole golf course, conference center, golf academy, and instruction center. The 18-hole golf course currently open is the original El Dorado Country Club designed by George Fazio in the early 1960s. The existing clubhouse facilities were demolished and the existing golf course was totally redesigned by the golf course architect, Jacobsen-Hardy Golf Design, to incorporate additional land and more topographic and aesthetic features. The redesigned course includes two series of interconnected lakes, man-made wetlands, drainage swales, drainage control structures, and outfall pipes to accommodate detention and drainage requirements for the site. The southern half of the redesigned course is within the existing 100-year floodplain of Greens Bayou which borders the south side of the site. |

| Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc. provided civil engineering, surveying and platting services for the redesigned golf course and the adjacent residential developments that border the course. A drainage/detention study was performed to determine the detention requirements for the golf course, conveyance of storm water from portions of the adjacent residential development, and to insure conveyance changes made within the existing floodplain did not negatively impact the flood levels along Greens Bayou. This study also addressed the use of golf course lakes and wetlands as detention facilities. We also have coordinated extensively with the golf course architect to ensure required improvements were in harmony with the proposed golf course design and incorporated existing lakes and forested areas. A master grading/mitigation plan was developed to address fill placed within the floodplain.
