Making a Difference in Our Communities:
Employees at Brown & Gay Engineers Donate Items to Troops

Employees in Brown & Gay Engineers’ Houston office recently collected
21 large boxes of non-perishable items, including food, snacks, drinks, and non-food items for our military men and women stationed overseas.  In addition, $290 in cash was collected to help defray the costs of shipping these items.

BGE’s Social Committee organized the donation drive and selected a local non-profit organization, Cypress Cares, to help them make sure that the items get to the troops overseas.

Cypress Cares is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing community support for U. S. troops through care packages and letters of encouragement.  This donation helps remind the troops that they have not been forgotten at home.

Triple Left Turn

Press Release - April 2011
Texas Council of Engineering Companies Awards

Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc. recently won a Gold Medal Award from the Texas Council of Engineering Companies for Triple-Left Turn Transforms Traffic-Congested Intersection, City of Sugarland, Texas, in Category I: Special Projects.

The concept presented by Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc. combined triple-left-turn lanes with in-pavement LED lights and an overhead dynamic message sign to guide traffic through the intersection.  In the United States, in-pavement lighting had been used to delineate double-left turns, but never for triple-left turns.  The Texas Transportation Institute, an important part of the project team, was able to secure approval from the Federal Highway Administration for the experimental use of these in-pavement lights.  Similarly, in Texas, dynamic message signs had been used on highways and within airport campuses, but never on local roadways.

This intersection, which received numerous complaints in the past, is now praised by residents and touted by City leaders as one of the top ten achievements for the year.  The City is considering installing in-pavement lights at other locations to enhance safety.  This innovative solution demonstrates that a low-cost project can produce high-impact results.

Texas Council of Engineering Companies Awards

Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc. recently won a Gold Medal Award from the Texas Council of Engineering Companies for Engineer Navigates River Authority to GIS Solution, San Jacinto River Authority in Category D: Survey and Mapping Technology.

A breakthrough solution using GIS software to link a physical object to a permit system has streamlined the River Authority’s permit tracking activities. A cumbersome manual system caused them to lose almost a quarter of their revenue potential from docks and on-site sewer facilities permits, which fund operations of Lake Conroe, a drinking water supply.

Implementing the new tracking system has enabled the Authority to recover revenues, identify new revenue sources, and spend more time inspecting for violations, hence preserving water quality. This innovative
solution can help other public entities improve workflow, better track assets, and be better stewards of taxpayer funds.
