Making a Difference in Our Communities

Throughout our 35-year history, Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc. has been actively involved in the growth and development of Fort Bend County, not only through our professional contributions but also through our financial and volunteer contributions.  BGE was one of the first to join community leaders in a plan to provide affordable and assessable higher education opportunities for the area students.

We are proud to have been part of the University of Houston’s building campaign.  Our donation of $25,000 helped build this important educational facility in Sugar Land, Texas.

BGE was recognized by the University, along with other donors, on the donor wall in the George Building’s rotunda.  In addition, Brazos Hall’s Classroom 367 was named in honor of Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc.

Offering support in the community is a key facet of BGE’s culture.  We have demonstrated this in many ways, including organizing food drives, collecting clothing and school supplies, serving on boards and committees, promoting adult literacy, providing college scholarships, and volunteering in home repair projects.

Brown & Gay Engineers recently competed in the large firm category at the Texas Council of Engineering Companies award competition.
Brown & Gay earned a 2010 Gold Medal Award for Engineer Navigates River Authority to GIS Solution, San Jacinto River Authority in Category D: Survey and Mapping Technology.

A breakthrough solution using GIS software to link a physical object to a permit system has streamlined the River Authority’s permit tracking activities. A cumbersome manual system caused them to miss out on
almost a quarter of their revenue potential from docks and on-site sewer facilities permits, which fund operations of Lake Conroe, a drinking water supply.

Implementing the new tracking system has enabled the Authority to recover revenues, identify new revenue sources, and spend more time inspecting for violations, hence preserving water quality. This innovative
solution can help other public entities improve workflow, better track assets, and be better stewards of taxpayer funds.

Brown & Gay Engineers announced the appointment of Jim Gregory to lead its newly formed department of Environmental Sciences.
Mr. Gregory brings more than 25 years of experience in environmental permitting and document preparation.  His technical expertise is regulatory analysis for the permitting, construction and operation of a project.  Mr. Gregory’s experience with fast-paced permitting projects will bring added value to private and public clients.

The Environmental Sciences department provides ecological, cultural resource management and regulatory analyses to support permit applications, the development of environmental mitigation, and National Environmental Policy Act document preparation.

2008 Gold Medal Award for Natural Living in partnership with General Growth Properties’ Bridgeland development

The centerpiece of the 11,400-acre Bridgeland development in northwest Houston is a system of interconnected lakes and streams. Adding to the complexity of planning for this waterway system, the Harris County Flood Control District was in the midst of adopting new regulations following Tropical Storm Allison in 2001. Our engineers worked closely with the District to achieve balanced compliance between the previous and proposed requirements, assuring that the project could continue without delay.

This one-of-a-kind waterway system is a beautiful amenity and provides added flood control protection and safety for residents. Residents and local wildlife, particularly the area’s vast array of migratory birds, thoroughly enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
